A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that Harrisburg Magazine was having a photo contest for "The Joys of Parenthood." You were supposed to submit a photo of something you caught your child doing that he/she wasn't supposed to do. Well, it so happened that I had just taken the perfect photo...
We caught this little devil in his sister's drawer one afternoon when the house felt MUCH too quiet! A short search revealed him sitting in the drawer, laughing hysterically that we had found him, with poor little Brynne's clothes scattered all about the room. Oh, two year olds! Luckily, I had my phone in hand and was able to get a quick pic.
Anyway, if you feel so inclined, please follow this link to Harrisburg Magazine and vote for Brady!
Please and thank you! :)

Day of Rest
Sundays around our house are usually spent cleaning and doing yard work and laundry. We call Sunday "work day", which is ironic because even God rested on the seventh day. For us though, it's the only chance we have in a week to get anything done, so no rest for the weary! This past Sunday, however, while we did manage to get some stuff done, we mostly eschewed routine and spent the day focusing on food and family rather than work. So, the floors may be a little messier this week, and I may have to do a load of laundry or two on a weeknight to keep us all in clean clothes, but at least we finally got to enjoy a Sunday! That's what summer is all about, right?
My Dad and Jen stopped by for a visit. Jason grilled some Tequila and Lime Marinated Flank Steak, which was nothing short of mouthwateringly delicious. This is my favorite way to cook flank steak. Because there's such a low fat content, it can be very dry, but the tequila marinade adds an amazing savory depth of flavor. We marinated it for about 4 hours and cooked it medium rare, it was heavenly! To go with that, I made a salad of black beans, roma tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno and grilled corn with a Basil and Lime Vinaigrette. It was the perfect accoutrement to the steak. Jason also stuffed some jalapenos with cheese and threw them on the grill too. The four of us scarfed everything down! Summer food is all about spice and citrus for us, we rarely cook a meal without peppers and lemons or limes when it's hot outside. As I've said before, I'm not much of a summer person--but I do love summer food!
Unfortunately there's no "after" shot of the flank steak, because it got eaten too quickly! Sorry about that, I feel like I'm robbing you of the best part. You'll have to make it yourself and find out--I can assure you it will have been worth the effort!
While we made dinner, Brady and Brynne spent time with their Grandpa Lewis and Grandma Jen...
That was our Sunday. Hope yours was spent getting some "rest" as well!

Instead of using the recipe for the salad, I just threw in black beans, chopped roma tomatoes, cilantro, grilled corn and minced jalapeno.

I wasn't going to try these, but they were surprsingly good and not too hot at all. They had a nice crunch too.

"Photobombed" by the dog! He was trying to get up as high as possible to see the steak on the grill, I'm sure.

Miss B finally let someone other than Mommy hold her!
Brady just woke up from a long nap, but he was in a good mood.
Two Lewis faces
Having an appetizer of crackers with Grandpa. He wanted to try the jalapenos, but toddlers and spicy peppers don't mix!
After the meal, we had watermelon for dessert. Brady couldn't get enough, and neither could Miss B! She kept grabbing at it and pulling it to her mouth, so we let her have an "official" taste. She loved it!
"I can have it, Mom?"
Not sure what's funnier--Mommy's face or the yummy watermelon!
That was our Sunday. Hope yours was spent getting some "rest" as well!

Baby's First Swim
This weekend went swimmingly (see what I did there? Ha). We took Miss Brynne swimming in the pool at Gigi's for the very first time. Not surprisingly, she loved it! She laughed and giggled until she got too hungry to continue. Grandma F. was there too helping out with Big Brother. He spent the night with her so Jason and I were feeling somewhat rested Saturday morning and it felt like a good day to go to the pool. Photo dump, coming up!

Lookout, Big Bro is on the loose!
Loving the pool, just like their Mommy and Daddy.

The "BOOOOOAT" was pretty fun, too.
Like her Mother before her, she gets MAD when she's hungry!

It was a fun day. I can't wait to do it again soon!

Quick Pics - Week of July 15, 2013
Whew!! What a week this has been. Up, down, and all around. It's been so hot this week that I have literally avoided going outside at all costs (thank you to whomever invented the concept of a "garage"). I am ready for a nice Friday night of relaxing. Brady is off to Grandma's house for the night tonight, and we have a fun outing with friends to Troeg's Brewery planned for Saturday. Hopefully everything goes off without a hitch. I'm running short on time, so here's this week's quick pictures.
